Basics

Search engine optimization begins with its design, its content and the structure of a website. So let's start with the conditions, before we go into detail and come to the tips for optimizing TYPO3 and other CMS.

Guidelines for Design and Content

  • Create a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one other page using text links.
  • Provide your users with a sitemap (sitemap) and with text links. The map leads to the most important parts of your Web and lists the underlying seitan. Is the map more than 50 to 60 text links, it is worth considering to divide the map and split into several areas.
  • Create user-friendly pages which contain much information on the topic. Avoid trite advertising.Enter the pages descriptive titles that describe the contents accurately. Use semantically correct HTML elements.
  • Use words and phrases in the text where you are unsure or can at least assume that users search on search engines for exactly that too. Avoid using too many foreign words.
  • Try to use text instead of graphics and images. Search engines do not see any text that is contained in graphics. If you use images, you provide them with Alt-and title-text. Use also meaningful descriptions, of which it is established that is also sought after.

Technical Guidelines

  •  Make sure on each page valid HTML code that is used. Incorrect code may mean that search engines do not see any content on your page.
  • Look at your pages with tools such as the Lynxviewer. Similarly, search engines see your page.Where the content does not make sense or he is torn because of the incorrect use of HTML elements from the context, you will never be able to get a good placement in search results of search engines.
  •  Make sure that search engines can access without a session ID to your pages. Most CMS and eCommerce offering for this setting. If you do not, arise from the perspective of the search engine may be hundreds of links that show all on the same page. This leads to a negative assessment of the relevant page.
  • Use the robots.txt file if you want to exclude certain pages or entire directories from indexing by search engines.
  • Test your finished website necessarily in all commercially available browsers.

Qualitative Guidelines

  • Avoid hidden or invisible text or links.
  • Make pages for your visitors and not for search engines. Do the latter, you may have a high number of visitors who leave your site immediately, but again, because they have not found there, namely, what they really wanted
  • Avoid any form of search engine tricks. That would be very shortsighted. Imagine if in any action the question, so I help my users?
  • Do not create pages or sub-domains with a double content.
  • Do not use keywords if they have nothing to do with the actual content of your page.
  • Try to write each page so that it is a complete document.
  • They thought such as "My user Banish should stay on my side, and therefore they should look for information." - No one will ever really do that.
